Healthy Schools, Healthy Kids!
The
Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Coalition is working with local school
districts to create healthier school environments for students,
teachers, and staff. The Coalition promotes the Center for Disease
Control’s Coordinated School Health Program Model. This model address health
and social problems in schools and involves children, peers, families, healthcare workers, media, religious organizations, and community
organizations. The model consists of eight components that focus on
all aspects of health, safety, and wellness.

The
Coalition has also assisted school districts in writing and
implementing wellness policies to improve the nutritional quality of
foods served on school campuses and increase the amount of physical
activity children receive during the day.
The CVH
Program partners with many schools in the county to provide multiple
physical activity opportunities for students, parents, and staff. The
programs in the past included:
· International
Walk to School Month (October)
· Student
and Teacher Walking Clubs
· PTO
Walk-a-thon Fundraiser (Buckeye Valley East)
