Questions?

The Food Protection staff at the Delaware General Health District (DGHD) educates restaurant workers everyday on safe food practices.  The staff utilizes videos, demonstrations, and talking points to help workers learn.

Food safety is just as important in your own home.  Cooking foods to the proper temperatures, placing food in the refrigerator when you return home from the grocery store, and washing your hands prior to handling food are just a few simple steps you can take to protect your family from a food borne illness.

The “What does Food Safety look like to you?” coloring contest was open to all the third graders in the DGHD in April 2008.  The DGHD received over 100 entries from twelve different schools.  The winners represent two schools in the district.  The Grand Prize winner received a visit form Fight BAC! and will have her winning entry made into placemats to be distributed at restaurants in the Delaware General Health District in September for Food Safety month.

What does Food Safety look like to you?

The Delaware General Health District inspects restaurants and educates people about how to keep your food safe.

The Delaware General Health District talks to people about proper cooking temperatures, hand washing, keeping uncooked food away from cooked food and keeping cold food cold. We show movies and pictures to help explain those ideas to many different groups.

The Delaware General Health District would like your help teaching people about food safety by having a coloring contest . We would like to see what YOU would do to keep your food safe. Draw and color your idea of food safety. This contest is open to all 3rd graders in the Delaware General Health District.

The top five drawings will be placed on the Delaware General Health District website. The grand prize winner will have their drawing made into placemats to be distributed to restaurants during Food Safety month in September. All winners will receive a Fight BAC! t-shirt.

The drawing should be on an 81/2” X 11” piece of paper (no lined paper please).
Please submit your entry and the back page of this flyer to your teacher no later than May 5, 2008

If you have any questions, please contact Shannon or Melissa at 740/368-1700.

T-shirts were provided to the Food Protection and Public Safety Unit through a grant from the Friends for Life Fund.
