A Private Water System is any water system, other than a public water system, that provides water for human consumption.  This includes private wells, springs, cisterns, or ponds that are used as a potable (drinking) water source, as well as all equipment, piping, and fittings that transport that water from its source to the point of discharge.

A site review is conducted and a permit issued for each new or altered private water system.

The Sanitarians in the Residential Services Unit also provide water sampling services for new, altered, or existing private water systems.
