The STAND UP Leadership Team is a group of Delaware County high schoolers who promote healthy lifestyles by being tobacco, drug, alcohol, and violence-free. We plan and carry out a wide variety of fun events.
STAND UP Leadership Team Pledge
“I, as a member of the STAND UP Leadership Team, pledge to respect myself and others. In doing so, I will abstain from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and violent behavior. Therefore, I understand my decisions affect the validity and strength of the STAND UP Leadership Team, and I take this promise seriously. I believe that I am a powerful force in my community, and will work to lead and support my peers in making positive, healthy choices.”
What we’ve done:
- Helped pack bags of food at the Delaware County People in Need Holiday Clearing House .
- Held a retreat to plan events for the remainder of the 2010-11 school year.
- Celebrated the Great American Smokeout at 3 county high schools with messages on posters and in sidewalk chalk around the school.
Facilitated large and small group activities at Delaware Hayes High School’s Freshman Orientation Day for the 2010-11 school year.
- Created anti-tobacco PSAs which aired in all county school districts in March and April 2010 in honor of Kick Butts Day.
- Organized Game Nights for all Delaware County High Schoolers.
- Advocated for 100% Tobacco-Free Campus policies in several Ohio School districts.
- Conducted focus groups with high schoolers from around the county to learn more about the issues that face teens.
- Worked with Olentangy Liberty High School’s Teen Advocates group to collect donations for Mother’s Day gift bags for women at the Turning Point shelter.
- Held “Thank You Section” events at local restaurants to thank them for complying with the Smoke-Free law.
- Participated in three community service projects to clean up cigarette butt litter in downtown Delaware.
- Hosted a booth and seating area at the Battle of the Bands in Delaware with games and activities for teens that increased awareness concerning alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and sexual and dating violence. They also wrote and performed Public Service Announcements built around the “Choose Respect” and “stand” campaigns.
Hosted three STAND UP Leadership Conferences and invited community partners to participate and offer prevention education and skill-building workshops.
