While current federal and state laws do not require Ohio schools to be 100% tobacco-free, schools do have the legal right to make that choice—and it is a healthy and smart choice to make. In addition to the health advantages, a 100% tobacco-free policy offers many other benefits including the opportunity to reinforce school-based tobacco prevention education and provide a positive example for students. In
fact, having one without the other sends mixed messages and may negate the positive effects of tobacco prevention education.

So make the right choice, and practice what you teach: create a healthy, safe, and smart environment for your students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

UPDATE! Olentangy School District voted in December 2007 to make their district 100% tobacco-free! Congratulations! They are the 129th school district in Ohio to adopt a 100% Tobacco-Free School Campus Policy!
