Bureau of Children with Medical Handicaps
It is estimated that 10% of the children born in Ohio have special health care needs. BCMH supports early identification of children with special health care needs and the treatment of those children.
Families who have children with a chronic illness or physical disability may receive services from both Medicaid and BCMH programs and/or from BCMH.
We provide RN Case Management services for the BCMH program at no charge to the family.
BCMH is a state-administered program that operates within The Ohio Department of Health. Federal Funding is provided by the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant. Other funding comes from the State General Revenue Fund, County Tax Funds, Third-party Reimbursements and Donations BCMH was originally called the Crippled Children’s Services (CCS) and was planned by the Federal Children’s Bureau in 1935.
