Did you know that falls are the leading cause of injury related deaths for Ohioans aged 65 or older?

Falls are expensive to treat, and injuries caused by falling can extend beyond the physical, causing emotional distress and reducing the quality of life for an older adult.

Falls are preventable and the Delaware General Health District is here to help!

Risk factors for older adults:


  • Poor mobility
  • Vision problems
  • Medication side effects
  • Fear of falling
  • Clothing and footwear
  • Chronic Illnesses
  • Environmental Hazards



Steps you can take to reduce your risk of falling:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Have your vision checked
  • Increase lighting in and around your home
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist about any possible side effects from medication
