Education Classes

Serv Safe®

The ServSafe® program provides food safety training, exams and educational materials to foodservice managers. Students can earn the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification, accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-Conference for Food Protection (CFP).

The program blends the latest FDA Food Code, food safety research and years of food sanitation training experience. Managers learn to implement essential food safety practices and create a culture of food safety. All content and materials are based on actual job tasks identified by foodservice industry experts.

The Delaware General Health District offers the Serv Safe® class twice a year. Cost of class is $150.00 per person. The class consists of two days of food safety practice education and review.  Students will be provided the most current Serv Safe® book and material. At the end of class, students will take the National Serv Safe® exam. Upon passing, students will receive a nationally recognized Serv Safe® Certification.

This class is a great opportunity for General Managers, Executive Chefs and owner/operators in the food service industry.

Level 1: “Person in Charge”

The State of Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code requires that all Food Service Operations and Retail Food Establishments have at least one person in charge in the facility during all hours of operation. This person must be able to demonstrate applicable knowledge of foodborne illness prevention practices and/or have a State of Ohio Level 1 certification in food protection.

To meet the needs of any Food Service Operation or Retail Food Establishment, the Delaware General Health District offers the Level 1 certification class six times throughout the calendar year at convenient locations throughout the District. This four-hour course covers the basics of what a “person in charge” needs to know. The class cost is $25.00 per person. Group rates are also available. Students will be provided course material and will receive a certificate of completion at the end of class. All Level 1 certifications are valid in the State of Ohio.

This class is perfect for shift leaders, crew managers and persons new to the food service industry.
