Health Promotion & Wellness

Dedicated to your health, the Delaware General Health District strives to educate its residents and enhance the environment where we work, play and live. The Health Promotion staff focuses on preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke and others. We offer technical assistance, coordination of services, programming, policy development and more to ensure that our community is healthy and well.

We focus on several programming areas that can truly impact behavior change. The issue of obesity was identified by the community as the number one health concern in Delaware County. Health District obesity prevention services include the creation of the Delaware County Obesity Prevention Sub-committee, along with school wellness policy assistance, childcare obesity prevention programming, nutrition health education curricula, and physician provider obesity prevention programming.

Trained staff provide wellness assistance in several different settings: schools, healthcare, worksites and the overall community. The Health District has formed the Delaware County Wellness Collaborative comprised of community partners and local residents. Staff assist school districts with implementing Coordinated School Health. Programming focusing on reducing tobacco use is coordinated through the tobacco prevention and education program. The Health District coordinates the county’s teen prevention efforts through the youth-led STAND UP Leadership Team.

The Health District's health promotion efforts can be broken down into seven key areas/programs:
