Home Births

Parents, who give birth to their baby at home or outside of a birthing facility, will need to register the birth of their baby with the local Vital Statistics office. The registration must be completed within 10 days of the birth of the baby. After 10 days, a Delayed Birth Affidavit must be filed in addition to the required documentation.

Follow steps below to register home birth:

  1. Complete Checkllist for Registration of an Out of Institution Birth for required documentation.  Examples of Acceptable Documentation
  2. Complete required forms and assemble the required materials:

Present documentation to the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

Once the documentation is presented, the data will be entered to register the birth and generate a draft birth certificate for review. An original birth certificate will be printed and signature will be required by either the parents or the attendant to the birth after the draft has been reviewed and approved.
