Delaware County Wellness Collaborative
The Delaware General Health District has organized the Delaware County Wellness Collaborative to oversee efforts to address the leading causes of death and fight chronic disease. The Collaborative consist of four coalitions:
- The Delaware County Obesity Prevention Sub-Committee targets obesity prevention throughout Delaware County, reaching out to schools, worksites, the community, healthcare and decision makers.
- The Tobacco-Free Delaware Country Coalition targets tobacco use across multiple settings and advocates for tobacco-free policies across Delaware County.
- The Worksite Wellness Network focuses exclusively on encouraging healthy habits and policies at the workplace.
- The Healthy Neighborhoods Program was formed to fight cardiovascular risk factors and chronic disease in some disadvantaged areas of our county. Healthy Neighborhood Teams currently meet in Ashley and in South Delaware.
Each of the above coalitions is co-chaired by a Health District staff member and a community partner. Membership on all of the coalitions is open to interested residents and professionals working in related fields. The coalitions meet individually as needed, and convene as the Delaware County Wellness Collaborative once a quarter.
