The Delaware General Health District Division of Environmental Health is involved in a wide variety of environmental issues that impact the citizens of the district. Our goal is to provide the citizens of the district with the safest place possible to live; work and play. Our challenge is to protect our citizens from harm and illness from countless environmental factors. The Division of Environmental Health combines traditional inspection programs with new innovative techniques and programs to meet the challenges of today.

The division is divided into 3 units; Food Protection and Public Safety, Residential Services and Emergency Response and Solid Waste. These units deal with issues such as protecting the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breath, disposal of waste and many other environmental health related issues. The activities in the programs are conducted by Registered Sanitarians. Registered Sanitarians are environmental health professionals who apply specialized knowledge and skills they have acquired through advanced education and specific experience in the area of environmental health.

Each unit within the Environmental Health Division works closely with local officials to address the needs of their residents. We also work closely with other county, state and national agencies involved in public health and environmental health to assure our citizens are receiving the best possible service they can.
