Why is the town hall meeting being held?

Goal: TO EXPLORE HEALTH PRIORITIES FOR DELAWARE COUNTY RESIDENTS

The Delaware General Health District along with the Partnership for Healthy Delaware County (PHDC) is conducting a Community Themes and Strengths assessment in Delaware County. Community Themes and Strengths assessment is one of the four assessments which attempts to collect community opinions via town hall meetings and online surveys. The Town Hall Meeting will help establish community priorities pertaining to health, health care and other quality of life issues.

The Partnership for Healthy Delaware County is a panel of citizens and community leaders helping the Health District conduct its periodic assessment of personal health issues. PHDC is working toward bringing its vision of Delaware County - "A welcoming environment where all can thrive and enjoy emotional and physical wellbeing" - to life. To help make this happen, PHDC is currently engaged in "Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership" (MAPP) process. Earlier this summer, more than 1,300 Delaware County households were surveyed by telephone about their health habits in another important part of the community health status assessment. We would like to thank all the residents who participated in the telephone interview earlier this summer.

During the town hall meetings and the online survey, we will be collecting information from you regarding:

  • Characteristics of a healthy community
  • Health and quality of life in Delaware County
  • Your concerns living in Delaware County
  • Your ideas to improve

The questions that will be asked at the meeting are:

  • What do you believe are the 2-3 most important characteristics of a healthy community?

  • What makes you most proud of our community?

  • In your family or your friends’ families, what are your biggest concerns living in Delaware County? (things like: personal needs; health; employment; education)

  • Are you satisfied with the quality of life in our community?

  •  Are you satisfied with the health care system in the community?

  • Is this community a good place to raise children?

  • Is this community a good place to grow older?

  • What are some of the things that you see as lacking in your community?

  • What are your suggestions for improvement?

  • What would excite you enough to become involved (or more involved) in improving our community?

Why should I get involved?

  • We cannot do this without you.
  • Your personal input is very important.
  • You will have a hand in helping us set community priorities over the next several years, for Delaware County.
  • Your individual voice will be heard, allowing you to be a part of the planning for a healthy community. Widespread response is essential to make this assessment process successful in collecting broad range of ideas and opinions representative of the diverse population in Delaware County.
  • This is your opportunity to get involved in your community and give back to your community.
  • There will be door prices for people who attend.

What is the time commitment for this assessment process?

We know your time and your opinion are valuable and that is why we want them. We are asking for 90 minutes of your personal time. You only need to attend one Town Hall meeting. We have arranged the meetings in two convenient locations in the county that are accessible. The Strategy Team from Columbus will be facilitating these meetings.

How will this benefit me?

This is your opportunity to

  • Express your views on health in your community,
  • Why you are proud of your community,
  • Whether you consider this a good place to raise children and grow old
  • Explore your interest in getting more involved in your community.

The compiled result of your (including your friends, family and neighbors) input will result in setting priorities that are important to you. A report of the findings will be available on the website by January 2008. Please bookmark this page.
