Delaware, Oh. –  Two Delaware County school systems will join schools from around the nation to celebrate National Walk to School Day with Delaware City Schools and Olentangy Schools observing it on both Wednesday, Oct. 4 and Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023. 
 
The official Walk & Roll to School Day date is Oct. 4 this year, however buildings within both school districts are celebrating on days that better fit their schedules:
  • Delaware City Schools Carlisle Elementary: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8:30am
  • Delaware City Schools Conger Elementary: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8:30am
  • Delaware City Schools Dempsey Middle School: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 7:40am
  • Delaware City Schools Schultz Elementary: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8:30am
  • Delaware City Schools Smith Elementary: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8:30am
  • Delaware City Schools Woodward Elementary: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8:30am
  • Olentangy Schools Alum Creek Elementary: Wednesday Oct. 4, 8:50am
  • Olentangy Schools Tyler Run Elementary: Wednesday Oct. 11, 9:05am
Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment.
 

The event is being organized by Delaware Public Health District’s Community Health Division with support from the Delaware Police Department school resources officers.
